Alex Hammer - Hatha Yoga Mastery Weekend

  • Dharma Studios Berlin 98 Kienitzer Straße Berlin, BE, 12049 Germany (Karte)

Welcome to Artful Asanas -  A Weekend Journey into Hatha Yoga Mastery with Alex Hammer at Dharma Studios Berlin

Embark on a transformative weekend journey, exploring the art of Hatha Yoga through a carefully crafted series of classes designed to deepen your practice and unlock new dimensions of strength and flexibility.

  • Friday 17:30-19:30

Begin your weekend with a grounding session that invites you to arrive, connect with your breath, and set the foundation for the days ahead. This class aims at getting to know you and your unique practice in a supportive environment where individualized adjustments to cater your specific needs will be provided.

  • Saturday 09:00-12:00

Dive into the world of Backbends with a dedicated session aimed at cultivating joy in these heart-opening postures. Learn techniques to safely and effectively approach backbends, building a holistic practice that not only strengthens but allows you to relish the beauty of these empowering poses. Whether we are talking about the Cobras, Bows, Camels, Wheels or Pigeons, we will do them all! By working on areas that sometimes get overlooked like Neck, Upper Back, Shoulders, Hips and Quads, a strong, balanced and holistic backbending foundation will be achieved that allows us to develop a taste for these delicate areas. Moreover, by also working on inversion fundamentals (Headstand, Forearmstand and Handstand) we set the right tone for the stunning combination of Backbends+Inversions.

  • Saturday 15:00-17:00

Explore the grace of FrontBending in this specialized class. Cultivate a practice that encourages flexibility and strength in forward folds, enhancing your overall yoga experience. With a focus on alignment and mindfulness, discover the joy of surrendering into frontbends. By focusing on abilities that sometimes get overlooked, like the ability to extend in forward folds, the ability to rotate your hip (Anterior Pelvic Tilt), the ability to externally rotate to protect your knees while still being able to do positions like Lotus and various Leg Behinds and the ability to rounden your back (Flexion - Posterior Pelvic Tilt) to make specific folds like Turtles and Fireflies more accessible, a strong and balanced FrontBending foundation will be achieved that allows us to develop a taste for this delicate topic. Moreover, by working also on shoulder opening fundamentals we set the right tone for the stunning bound folds and deeper leg behinds with arms above the legs (Yogi Dandasana, Kapilasana, Buddhasana…).

  • Sunday 09:00-11:00

As the weekend draws to a close, return to the Hatha Yoga Mastery class to integrate the knowledge gained throughout the series. Experience the results of your journey, revealing in the progress made in Backbends and FrontBending. This class serves as a celebration of your dedication and growth over the weekend.

About Alex
Alex´s movement journey started with bodyweight training and calisthenics. After several injuries due to inflexibility he was fortunate to discover Yoga through YouTube and started the exact same day. Two years later he did his 200hr Hatha YTT in Rishikesh India, but dedicated himself to Ashtanga for a couple of years afterwards.

Always in the search for something new and by spending hours and hours on the mat daily, he slowly started to experiment with an approach that combined training elements and Yoga to complement his beloved Hatha practice to which he returned after the Ashtanga phase.

  • In particular by practicing with circus artist Alexander Batuev he developed a method that aims at balancing out strength and flexibility and allows the practitioner to stretch not only their bodies but also their limits.

Alex regards movement as art and a means of self-expression. He knows firsthand that our feelings towards our practice can be ambivalent, so in his workshops and retreats he focuses on connecting practitioners with their bodies and finding joy within the practice, i.e. while practicing. This is achieved by the development of a skill that could be called ‹ intensity management ›, the joyful experience of going beyond our perceived limitations and by finding access to our practice as a means of self-expression.
