‘Traveling through matter’
with Barbara Berti /Berlin
This workshop invites you to immerse yourself in understanding the language of Contact Improvisation through two main elements: your subtle sensing body and the energy of your physical body as mass.
We will explore the transformative nature of your body through the axis, bones, and spirals, and then focus on the sensing body, a method Berti uses in CI to sense the subtle movement of your sensing and intention and move and generate a partner dance from there.
We will investigate in solo, partner, and group work.
The workshop will help to balance and dance from your feeling united to your physical body, generating a sense of wholeness, and a healthy use of bone alignment that allows dynamism and strength with safety.
We will meet and notice the creation of our decision-making in partnering, lifting, and direction through a combination of axes and spirals.
Berti also applies the sensing body that works on the balancing of the nervous system, in performativity through his dance productions, in contemporary classes, and therapies with humans and dogs.
The class starts and navigates between soft exercises very internal, and other very physical and dynamic practices. Bring your water and your open heart, we are gonna dance and grow!
Barbara Berti is a dancer, multidisciplinary artist, choreographer and researcher who lives in Berlin since 15 years. As a performer and choreographer she has appeared on stage with Isabelle Schad (2016 to 2020), Tino Seghal (2015 to 2018) and collaborated with visual artist such as Judith Seng (2012 to 2014), Gabi Schilling (2014 and 2020) Kareth Schaffer (2018 to 2020), Julian Weber (2013) and bauhaus Dessau institute (2019), Frank Ahlgrimm (2023-24) among others. She has her training in graphic design, physical theatre, and dance; continued to study different techniques in contemporary dance, contact improvisation, meditation, somatic work approaches. She is know for her interspecies research and art work and she is teaching quantum therapy.

Berti combines her skills to explore the strong connection between humans and animals (interspecies), especially dogs and plants. By integrating concepts such as kinaesthetic empathy and embodied experiences into her interspecies work and exhibitions, she creates innovative forms of expression in art. Through the integration of instant composition, body-mind centering, CI and meditation, she promotes new ways of communication and expands traditional multidisciplinary practices by establishing an interactive and creative dialogue between humans and animals. She received regularly art funding stipendium and creates her own interdisciplinary performance production.
She has a strong focus on research into contact improvisation from a point of view of perception and interconnection that goes beyond the usual form of contact impro, but rather search for a deeper connection between mind, body and 'the other', from a research point of view. She is also therapist of the sensing body (subtle bodies) a method she originated during the interspecie research which she shared without the class. The therapy she teach is also quantum therapy a way to sense the microscopic movements of the field in the organism and immediate surrounding. Very useful to develop awareness a different level of own presence.
