Alex

  • Alex (they/them) is a school teacher turned yoga teacher. Their experience in the classroom has taught them how to see, hear, and care for their students on the deepest level. Now they bring that care to you and your practice.

Alex has been practicing yoga for over 11 years and teaches Vinyasa, Katonah, Yin, Breathwork, and Yoga Nidra. An underlying principle for their classes is the importance of respectfully keeping the practice as traditional as possible, while also making it modern enough to directly apply it to our lives.

Dharma is at the heart of Alex’s classes whether it be a spicy vinyasa or the slowest of yin. Yoga scriptures, chakra/energy work, and bits of poetry will find their way into the themes for the classes. The words, music, and Asana of every class are precisely curated to free you from any shackles you walked into the studio with.

“It’s not so much the meaning of life we seek, but our aliveness. When we have that, the meaning of life is obvious.” - Anodea Judith, Eastern Body Western mind

  • The practice of yoga nidra, also called “psychedelic yoga” or “sleepy yoga,” takes you beyond the meditative state and to a further dimension, pure consciousness, where you make contact with your spirit and replace doing with being

The teacher takes care of everything, all you have to do is get comfortable, listen, and drift away into bliss. Essentially, we will put the body to sleep and keep the mind awake. You come out of the practice with the physical feeling of a long nap and mental clarity of divine guidance. Students typically leave the practice feeling completely calm, enlightened, creative, and at peace. This is 1 hour for you to be completely with yourself, the Self underneath the surface of Life.

The class will begin with some light yin stretching/embodiment, followed by brief, grounding breathwork, then a 20-30 minute guided Yoga Nidra meditation.

  • “If you think you’re misunderstood, try being vinyasa yoga…” - Vinyasa yoga is known as being “flowy yoga” in many different forms and styles. But do we really know what it is?

Lets get back to its roots. “Vinyasa” means “to place in a special way” or even more applicably, “to artfully place one’s life.” These vinyasa classes will keep the practice respectfully traditional while modern enough to be relatable and approachable. A deep reverence for the tradition of yoga with community/spirit building dharma come together with curated playlists to lift your spirit and total well-being.

  • Yin Yoga is a practice and space that can help you reshape your relationship with stress. By stimulating the body in gentle stretches in a safe environment, you can help your psyche and soma learn more supportive responses to discomfort and stress. And through thoughtful instruction you will feel seen, heard, and cared for.

In these classes we will only pass through a handful of poses, occasionally coupled with breathwork, and gently open up the body. Gravity and body weight will assist in tugging and pulling on the joints, opening up joint space and flushing stale fluids away, while the abundant use of props allows you to feel completely held and supported.

  • Yoga For Mobility utilizes the style of Katonah yoga to practice strength and flexibility simultaneously. Katonah yoga draws its techniques from geometry of the human body, TCM, mysticism, esoteric theory, and taoism.

This powerful practice with help you floss and flush out your joints, build muscles for utility rather than just strength, deepen your understanding of your own body and its physical/spiritual center, better direct yourself in space and time, and enlighten you to your fullest potential.
